Mississippi will witness Brood XXII in 2027 and Brood XXIII in 2028, but it won’t experience 17-year cicadas like northern states will this year. These insects are known for their distinctive black and orange coloration, loud songs, and large numbers, with hundreds of thousands per acre in preferred habitats. In contrast, Mississippi also has around 20 species of annual green-bodied cicadas with varied songs.
