Evening weather forecast: 9/24/2024
SUMMARY: Severe thunderstorm warnings are in effect for parts of Kentucky due to heavy storms producing hail and strong winds. Breathett County is under a warning until 7 PM for quarter-inch hail and 60 mph winds, with storms moving northeast. Laurel County is also experiencing storms with larger hail. The storms are expected to diminish by late evening as a cold front approaches. Tropical Storm Helen is forecasted to strengthen and impact the southeastern U.S. later this week, bringing potential heavy rainfall. SUMMARY: Asbury University has achieved a significant milestone by reaching a record enrollment of 2,286 students this fall, the highest in its 134-year history. This figure encompasses traditional undergraduates, online students, graduate programs, and high school dual enrollment at Asbury Academy. The previous record was set in 2017, with a total of 1,956 students across all academic areas. This growth reflects the university’s expanding offerings and popularity among students.

Scott County sheriff announces resignation to pursue house seat
SUMMARY: Scott County Sheriff Tony Hampton is retiring to concentrate on his campaign for the Kentucky House, following advice to retire to safeguard his law enforcement benefits. He has served as sheriff for nearly 14 years. Chief Deputy Jeremy Nettles, who has been with the sheriff’s office since 2008, will be sworn in as the new sheriff on Thursday.
