How effective is Kentuckyโs income tax cut long term?
SUMMARY: Kentucky’s income tax rate could drop from 4% to 3.5% due to a growing reserve fund exceeding $5 billion. However, the tax cut requires legislative approval in the 2025 session and would only take effect in 2026. Discussions continue regarding the impact of this reduction on average Kentuckians; Senator McDaniel argues it allows individuals to retain more of their earnings, while Senator Neil expresses concern about potential service funding deficits. He highlights the experience of Kansas, where similar tax policies led to economic challenges. The sustainability of low tax rates amidst inflation remains uncertain.
Kentucky is set for another half percent income tax cut by 2026. GOP Budget Chair Chris McDaniel and Sen. Gerald Neal discuss how much money it will save Kentuckians long term and if the state can still operate on the reduced revenue

First school amendment campaign ad hits the air
SUMMARY: The campaign for Amendment Two, which focuses on education reform in Kentucky, is ramping up ahead of the November ballot. A new ad paid for by the Protect Freedom Pack advocates for school choice, highlighting improved outcomes in public schools linked to such programs. Supporters argue that choice offers better opportunities for low-income families, while critics, including Senator Neil, warn that redirecting funds to private options could harm underfunded public schools. Senator McDaniel counters that education spending has increased and emphasizes the need for alternatives for students in failing districts. The debate centers on balancing resources among public and private educational frameworks.
This November’s big statewide issue is hitting the airwaves. Lawmakers Gerald Neal and Chris McDaniel react to the first campaign ad airing on Kentucky televisions on the school amendment
