EMCC hosts a cooking competition for high school students
SUMMARY: East Mississippi Community College (EMCC) hosted its second annual Golden Triangle Chopped Competition, where local high school students showcased their culinary skills. Participants from Starkville, West Point, Columbus, and Lowndes County engaged in three rounds of cooking, creating appetizers, entrees, and desserts with specific ingredients, while also answering culinary knowledge questions. EMCC’s Culinary Arts Program Director, Jakiero Dismuke, emphasized the hospitality industry’s broad job opportunities beyond just cooking, including roles in sales, event planning, and catering services. He noted local job openings that allow individuals to gain skills through on-the-job training.
