Electric vehicles catch fire in Helene flooding
SUMMARY: Cleanup efforts continue in Georgia following Hurricane Helen, which resulted in 17 fatalities linked to fallen trees. Key priorities include restoring access to critical roadways, especially to hospitals and emergency services. Over 78,000 customers remain without power, with Georgia Power noting significant damage compared to last year’s storm. Meanwhile, in Florida, saltwater exposure is causing electric vehicles to catch fire. Incidents in Tampa include explosions from lithium batteries and vehicle fires spreading to homes. Residents are urged not to attempt to power on submerged electric devices, as this poses serious safety risks.
Helene brought flooding to several states in the eastern US. Fire crews have dealt with several fires in connection to electric cars in the flooding.

Tim Walz-JD Vance prepping for Vice Presidential Debate on Tuesday
SUMMARY: The first and likely only vice presidential debate between Minnesota Governor Tim Walls and Ohio Senator JD Vance is set for Tuesday, with CBS News facilitating candidate-led fact-checking. Vice President Kamala Harris has received bipartisan support, including an endorsement from former Arizona Senator Jeff Flake. In her recent Arizona visit, she focused on immigration, a key issue for the Trump campaign. Historically, vice presidential debates rarely change voter opinions, but Walls enjoys a more favorable view among voters than Vance, who is advised to focus on issues like the economy and border security. Fox4 will air the debate at 8 PM.
