Election organizers develop protocols for potential power outages

SUMMARY: On the upcoming election day, organizers emphasize the importance of electricity for a smooth voting process. Contingency plans are in place to address potential power outages, with utility companies prioritizing voting centers. Poll workers are trained to contact specific utility personnel for quick response to any issues. Electronic voting increases awareness of power usage, and in some areas, fire trucks equipped with generators can assist if outages occur. Voting equipment has battery backups to maintain functionality during outages. Organizers are also coordinating with the National Weather Service to mitigate the effects of any adverse weather on election day.

Voters will fill voting centers one week from now on election day. They’ll need electricity to make sure things go off without a hitch.

What are the qualifications to be called an 'astronaut' ?

SUMMARY: Pop star Katy Perry and journalist Gail King recently traveled to space as part of an all-female crew on Jeff Bezos’s Blue Origin rocket. However, they do not officially qualify as astronauts under U.S. definitions. NASA, the FAA, and the U.S. military have specific criteria for astronaut designation. NASA and military astronauts must be launched aboard spacecraft into orbit, while the FAA requires specific flight training and activities contributing to safety for commercial astronaut wings. The Blue Origin flight, which reached 66.5 miles, was autonomously operated, leaving no room for onboard activities that would meet these criteria.

Following pop star Katy Perry and journalist Gayle King’s flight to space earlier this week, many have been wondering if the women can call themselves astronauts.
