Counties fail to complete canvass; judicial race remains undecided | North Carolina
SUMMARY: The North Carolina State Board of Elections announced that counties failing to meet the Friday 5 p.m. deadline for results would face no penalties. In a closely watched Supreme Court race, Republican Jefferson Griffin led incumbent Democrat Allison Riggs by 2,753 votes, with 13 counties still unofficial, including Wake County. Nineteen out of 100 counties hadn’t reported results by the deadline. Wake County counts 3 ballots of voters who died before Election Day
SUMMARY: During a board meeting, Steve Amber highlighted that out of 70 challenges, 45 involved deceased voters. Despite some ballots being allowed, three votes were counted because they were legally cast during early voting before the voters died. The daughter of a deceased veteran emphasized her father’s pride in voting and urged the board not to invalidate his last act. Member Greg Flynn supported counting those votes, arguing that the law must accommodate legitimate cases. However, the board ultimately decided against counting 42 votes, citing legal requirements, while discussing concerns about potential legal repercussions and future legislative changes.
Following the law isn’t a clear-cut process in such cases. Proponents want the State Legislature to take up the issue.

Timeliness, efficiency sought in FAFSA Deadline Act | North Carolina
SUMMARY: U.S. Rep. Virginia Foxx emphasized the importance of making FAFSA forms accessible for higher education students, stating they should be available annually by Oct. 1. She discussed the FAFSA Simplification Act of 2020, aimed at easing the financial aid application process. Foxx criticized delays in the submission timeline under the Biden administration, which compromised students’ access to financial aid and resulted in frustrations. Alongside Rep.
