EF-1 tornado confirmed to have hit New Albany during Friday storms

SUMMARY: An EF1 tornado touched down in New Albany, damaging government buildings including the courthouse, Emergency Management and Board of Supervisors building, old jail, and chancery clerk’s office. The buildings had to close due to the damage, with water accumulating in ceilings and roof damage. EMA director Kirk Clayton deemed the courthouse unsafe and plans to reopen it on Monday. Workers are cleaning up the mess, replacing windows and dealing with fallen trees near the county library and Tanglefoot Trail. The damage caused by the tornado has resulted in closures and safety concerns for the affected buildings in Union County.
