SUMMARY: Last holiday weekend marked the unofficial start of summer, with many enjoying a three-day break outdoors. However, three families faced tragedy with drownings over the holiday. As we enjoy Mississippi's beauty, it's essential to stay cautious. On average, 11 people in the US die from drowning daily, with 1 in 5 being under 15 and unsupervised. Inexperienced swimmers are significant contributors to accidental drownings. Resources like the 100 Black Men of Jackson offer free swimming lessons for children, while the YMCA and Baptist Healthplex provide paid lessons. Proper planning is crucial to fully enjoy the summer safely.
