Editorial: Eudora Welty Library
SUMMARY: The Eudora Welty Library, a cherished spot for Jacksonians since 1946, will be demolished by the end of the summer after nearly 80 years of service. Originally a Sears department store, it became the downtown public library in the late '80s, named after Pulitzer Prize-winning author Eudora Welty. Although many have fond memories of reading and studying there, the building's long exposure to wear and tear necessitates its removal. The library will move to a new downtown location, and a beautiful park and green space, inspired by Welty's passion for gardening, will replace the old building, reflecting signs of progress.
