SUMMARY: As spring brings increased storm risks, it’s essential to prepare your home and review your insurance policy. Insurance expert Ed Fogle suggests checking outdoor trees and ensuring gutters are clear to prevent water damage. Many homeowners misinterpret their policies, often receiving less compensation for roof damage due to outdated coverage terms. Fogle advises working closely with your insurance agent to understand your policy and coverage details. In case of claims, don’t hesitate to discuss settlements with your agent before accepting them. Additionally, use trusted local companies for repairs rather than opting for unsolicited offers.

SUMMARY: Missouri lawmakers have passed HB 495, transferring control of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department to the state with a 113-39 vote, pending the governor’s signature, which Gov. Mike Kehoe supports. The St. Louis Police Officers’ Association views this as beneficial for public safety and business. However, Mayor Tishaura Jones opposed the bill, citing potential financial burdens and concerns that it could reverse recent crime reductions. If enacted, a six-member board will oversee the SLMPD, with most members appointed by the governor. Jones indicated possible legal action against the bill, which could take effect as early as August.
