SUMMARY: Meteorologist Grant Skinner reported two tropical systems: Tropical Storm Naen, now a depression, made landfall in the Yucatan and is weakening, posing no threat to the Gulf Coast. Hurricane Oscar has strengthened to a category one with 85 mph winds and is heading northward, expected to affect the Bahamas and parts of Cuba but not the U.S. Locally, clear skies and pleasant temperatures in the Gulf Coast are recorded, with highs around 80°F and lows in the 40s and 50s. High pressure will maintain dry conditions, leading to warmer temperatures mid-week while beachgoers should be cautious of strong currents.

Expert Talks Alzheimer’s Awareness Month | Nov. 18, 2024 | News 19 at 4:30 p.m.
SUMMARY: Alzheimer’s disease affects over 6 million people in the U.S. and is the 7th leading cause of death. It causes molecular changes in the brain, leading to memory and function problems. Dr. A. Pepper, a geriatrician, explains that while there are medications to modestly slow progression, there is no cure. She suggests keeping patients safe, active, and engaged, along with a nutritious diet. Caring for someone with Alzheimer’s can be emotionally and physically taxing, both for patients and their loved ones. The Alzheimer’s Association offers resources for caregivers, including educational materials and local support options.
November is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month.

Impact weather Tuesday as rain and storms move into Alabama, The weather turns much colder this week
SUMMARY: This evening, WVTM 13 Weather reports no rain on the radar, but showers and thunderstorms are approaching from the Gulf through several states. An area of low pressure will bring a cold front, leading to warm, humid, and windy conditions with a limited risk of severe weather on Tuesday, labeled as an “impact day.” Rain will likely start by midnight in West Alabama, continuing into the morning with gusty winds and lightning. The heaviest rainfall is expected south of I-20. Following this, colder air will move in, with potential frost by Friday morning and highs only in the 50s.

Winds may reach 30-40 mph, particularly during the morning, and there is a low chance of severe storms. The morning commute could be impacted by wet roads and heavy rain. A marginal risk of storms with gusty winds exists, especially from late morning to early afternoon. Rainfall totals could reach up to 2 inches in some areas south of I-20. After the rain clears, cooler temperatures will follow, with highs in the 50s by Thursday.
