Dry conitons, extreme heat affecting peanuts, cotton
SUMMARY: Recent extreme temperatures in South Mississippi have negatively impacted crops, particularly peanuts and cotton. Agriculture experts state that recent rainfall has done little to alleviate the situation. Charles Herrington discusses the effects of these weather conditions on Pine Belt farmers and how it could affect their finances. This year has been the worst in terms of crop production that he can remember, and breaking all-time heat records is exacerbating the issue. The article emphasizes the need for immediate action to provide assistance and alleviate the damage caused by these extreme weather conditions.
Local agriculture experts say peanut and cotton production will be down this year.
