Drought Causing Struggles for Fall Farm Tourism | Sept. 20, 2024 | News 19 at 6 p.m.
SUMMARY: Hidden River, Hidden Rivers Farm and Hartsell is officially open for the fall season, but drought conditions have negatively impacted attractions like the popular sugar cane maze and pumpkin growth. Co-owner Mary Sidney Rich noted that while recent rain has helped, it’s not sufficient to restore normal growth levels. She likened the situation to watering a lawn—one good rain isn’t enough to sustain plants long-term. In response to these challenges, the farm is creating new attractions, including a hay bale maze, while continuing to offer favorites like pony rides, gem mining, and apple canning.
