Drought causes increase in prices for crawfish season
SUMMARY: Crawfish season has arrived, but prices are higher than ever due to a drought affecting the population. Vendors like Brock Reese from Crawfish Commander in Mississippi are facing challenges and having to adjust their prices and menu offerings. Louisiana‘s crawfish industry, normally worth $250 million, is also suffering, with experts predicting only 20% of the normal volume. Despite the high prices, loyal customers are still supporting local vendors. Reese’s prices have dropped from $14 to $8 a pound, but he is also incorporating other seafood options like shrimp and oysters. The impact of the drought on crawfish season is unprecedented, leading to significant losses for Louisiana’s economy.
It’s crawfish season! And the season is starting with high prices.

Political analyst breaks down the big races on the Mississippi ballot
SUMMARY: Dr. Ray Michael from Jackson State University discussed the Mississippi Supreme Court race, focusing on the two leading candidates: incumbent Jim Kitchens and challenger Jenifer Branning. Branning, endorsed by the state Republican Party, has received significant financial support from insurance and banking industries, likely due to past tort reform impacts in Mississippi. Despite judges being nonpartisan, Branning’s campaign has emphasized her identity as a “constitutional conservative,” reflecting a shift in political advertising in the state. This approach aims to clarify her judicial philosophy without directly addressing policy issues, aligning with conservative judicial figures like Justice Scalia.
Dr. Ray Mikell, with Jackson State University, tells us what races we should be watching.

Meanwhile, Republicans, including Senator Roger Wicker, emphasize key campaign issues such as immigration and the economy, anticipating significant voter turnout as they mobilize efforts at their headquarters.
