DPS moving to Pearl
SUMMARY: The Department of Public Safety (DPS) is planning to move from its current building on Woodrow Wilson, which has severe foundation issues, asbestos problems, and gas leaks, to a new site in Pearl. The existing headquarters, built in 1976, needs to be demolished, and the land may be sold for redevelopment. The new DPS site will consolidate all divisions under one roof for the first time, with costs now between $65 and $70 million. The timeline for the new building’s completion has shifted to late summer or early fall of 2025. The state is considering commercial development for the vacated site.
