Dove hunters reminded to avoid shooting power lines
SUMMARY: As dove season approaches in Mississippi, power cooperatives are warning hunters about the dangers of hunting near power and fiber lines. Shooting doves while perched on these lines may seem like an easy shot, but it can lead to damage that interrupts power service and is expensive to fix. In the past, a hunting season cost over $100,000 in damages in just one night, with repairs costing over $25,000. The cooperatives are urging hunters to be mindful of where they are shooting, as it not only affects the power system but also the safety of their friends and neighbors. Shooting at these lines is also against the law and could result in vandalism charges and repair costs.
