Dog survives fentanyl exposure after being given Narcan
SUMMARY: A dog in Iowa County overdosed on fentanyl but was saved by deputies administering Narcan during a drug bust. This unusual rescue by the sheriff’s department involved giving the dog two units of Narcan, which ultimately saved its life. The sheriff confirmed that they had never had to administer Narcan to an animal before. The owners of the dog, Kenneth Cook and Candace Pierce, were arrested and put on a $45,000 bond each but have since paid and been released. The dog has been returned to the owners. This incident was a first for the department, which will provide aid to both humans and animals in need.
