DMH & MEMA Offer Tips to Manage Weather-Related Anxiety During Hurricane Season
SUMMARY: The Mississippi Department of Mental Health (DMH) and Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) are providing guidance for managing stress and anxiety during the 2024 hurricane season (June 1 – November 30). Key recommendations include developing a detailed evacuation plan, assembling an emergency kit, using hurricane tracking maps, and limiting exposure to weather updates. To alleviate anxiety during a storm, wear durable shoes, charge devices, find a safe spot, and monitor local news. Mental health strategies include prioritizing self-care, positive thinking, and meditation. For more resources, visit DMH’s website or MEMA’s hurricane page, and contact DMH’s helpline or mental health crisis line if needed.

MDOT urges emergency travel only in wake of winter storm
SUMMARY: The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) advises emergency travel only in areas affected by a recent winter storm, with ice reported on roads in 21 counties. Crews are actively treating affected roadways, focusing on southeastern and coastal areas. However, low temperatures tonight may refreeze treated surfaces. Key closures include the State Route 609 bridge in Jackson County and the I-110 and U.S. 90 bridges in Harrison County. MDOT encourages cautious travel, reminding drivers to watch for ice, reduce speed, maintain distance, and avoid distractions. For updates, visit GoMDOT.com/winter or download the MDOT Traffic app.
