Disturbance in Gulf of Mexico forecast to become first tropical storm

SUMMARY: A disturbance near the western Gulf of Mexico is forecast by the National Hurricane Center (NHC) to become the first tropical storm, bringing rain, coastal flooding, and wind impacts to Texas and northeastern Mexico. Tropical storm conditions are expected along the Texas coast south of Port O’Connor by Wednesday, with the system’s winds near 40 mph. There is an 80% chance it will be named Alberto. Additionally, meteorologists are tracking two other disturbances: one near the Bahamas moving westward with a 20% chance of development, and another in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico with a similar development chance over the weekend.
