SUMMARY: Over the weekend, three teenagers, Tyshawn Holmes, Robert Earl Smith, and Jason Jones, broke out of the Henley Young Patent Juvenile Justice Center. This was the second time in six months that the trio had escaped. The detention officer on duty at the time described the chaotic situation, with 14 juveniles escaping their jail cells. Due to staffing issues, the officers were outnumbered and unarmed, making the situation dangerous for everyone involved. The facility was described as being under-staffed, and officers were not equipped with necessary tools such as mace or restraints to protect themselves. The escape is currently under investigation by the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office.
