Derelict sailboat on Pensacola Beach removed after months
SUMMARY: The Lady Katherine III sailboat, which became a temporary landmark on Pensacola Beach after being spotted as a ghost ship in June, has now been removed due to weather concerns. Crews demolished the 55-foot derelict vessel, which had drawn tourists but was also seen as an eyesore and a hindrance to public access and lifeguard operations. The boat washed ashore after its crew was rescued, and the removal process was initiated after it was declared derelict by law enforcement. The project cost over $39,000, marking the end of the Lady Katherine III’s presence on the beach.

SUMMARY: In 2024, the Autauga-Prattville Public Library became a central point in the culture war over library books as the board, stacked with members from Clean Up Alabama, excluded LGBTQ+ content from minors. This led to controversial firings and lawsuits, including a settlement with former director Andrew Foster. Meanwhile, the Prattville Pride group fought to stay in the city’s Christmas parade after opposition from far-right groups, ultimately winning in court. The Alabama Legislature also continued its attacks on libraries, proposing bills to regulate materials. Additionally, Alabama’s underground raw milk market and rumors about immigrants in Albertville fueled further controversy.
