Deputy OK after crash in Lowndes County earlier in the week

SUMMARY: The L County Sheriff’s Office is down a patrol car after a deputy crashed his cruiser while responding to a traffic stop. Sheriff Eddie Hawkins reported that the incident occurred Tuesday on Highway 82 at Tuscaloosa Road within Columbus city limits. The deputy collided with another vehicle while assisting another deputy. Fortunately, both the deputy and the other driver were unharmed. The sheriff acknowledged that traffic accidents are a risk inherent to the job, given the long hours deputies spend on the road, even in situations that aren’t high-speed pursuits.
