Dept. of Education mass layoffs

Published

SUMMARY: The Department of Education, one of the smallest cabinet agencies, announced mass layoffs as it begins to comply with President Trump’s plan to dismantle the agency, which requires Congressional approval. Over 1,300 employees received layoff notices via email, with Education Secretary Linda McMahon stating the goal is to reduce bureaucracy to allow more funding to flow to local schools. Reactions have been mixed: Democrats condemned the cuts as an unconstitutional government overhaul, while Republicans supported the initiative. Critics warn that abolishing the agency could disrupt programs like student loans and funding for special needs students. A rally was held in protest just before the cuts were announced.

He shared on social media that the surgery was successful but did not specify his recovery timeline. Woods experienced pain while training at home, leading to the diagnosis. Ogeechee Riverkeeper, Hyundai respond to wastewater concerns

Published

on

www.wsav.com – Sarah Smith – 2025-03-10 15:02:00

SUMMARY: Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) has been trucking wastewater off-site since September 2024 after failing to meet the City of Savannah’s treatment standards for pH, solids, and metals. The plant’s pipes were found to have high metal levels, prompting HMGMA to replace them. A third-party hauler mistakenly transported wastewater to an unapproved facility, but this was addressed once identified. Ogeechee Riverkeeper (ORK) raised concerns over wastewater treatment, noting that some wastewater haulers lacked necessary permits. HMGMA is working to upgrade its systems and ensure compliance with environmental regulations while the City of Savannah addresses pretreatment standards.
