Department of Transportation presents priority projects for Baton Rouge area | Louisiana
SUMMARY: The Louisiana Department of Transportation recently discussed priority projects for fiscal year 2024-2025 with the Joint Transportation Committee. Notably absent from their report was the Mississippi River Bridge project, which aims to alleviate traffic between Plaquemine and St. Gabriel. Iberville Parish President Chris Daigle criticized its omission, emphasizing that $200 million of the initial $500 million has already been withdrawn, leaving $300 million for a $1.2 billion total cost. He urged starting with available funds to prevent further delays. Meanwhile, various East Baton Rouge projects are progressing toward construction in the upcoming fiscal year.

First Gordon Plaza house to be demolished to build a community solar farm
SUMMARY: Demolition crews are set to begin work at Gordon Plaza, where the first home will be knocked down to create a solar energy farm. The site, which was once the Agriculture Street landfill, has faced significant controversy since its 1981 development due to toxic sludge containing lead and other carcinogens contaminating homes. Homeowners previously received millions in buyouts. The demolition marks the start of a two-year process to design and construct the facility, allowing residents to purchase access to the solar farm at a low cost, ultimately providing discounts on their electricity bills.
Officials say the process to design and build the facility could take about two years
