SUMMARY: President Biden has exited the presidential race, leaving Vice President Kamala Harris poised to take the Democratic nomination. Harris is rapidly gaining endorsements and will need to choose a running mate who appeals to swing states, aiming for moderate Democrats and independents. The upcoming debate with Donald Trump is significant, as Harris’s debate skills are questioned, unlike Trump’s previous strategy of letting Biden falter. Biden is expected to address the nation soon, with his decision to step back possibly improving his legacy. The discussion emphasizes the need for younger leadership in both parties as the 2024 election approaches.

President Joe Biden is out of the race for the White House, and Vice President Kamala Harris is quickly pulling in the Democratic endorsement. Next month, she could be named the party’s nominee for president. But choosing her vice president will be important. Presidential historian and author Talmage Boston explains why.
