Defense attorney for former Booneville asst. coach files response to govt.’s request to keep him in
SUMMARY: A federal judge is expected to schedule a hearing to determine whether a man accused of child sex crimes should be released from jail. Kenny Paul Gino’s defense attorney filed a response to the government‘s request to keep him in jail, arguing that the FBI agent who testified against his client took over the case recently and failed to interview one of the victims. The attorney also claimed that there is no Snapchat documentation between Gino and the alleged victims and mentioned that one victim admitted to consensual sex with Gino when she was 17. Gino was granted an unsecured $110,000 bond after character witnesses spoke on his behalf.

Mental health professionals testify in Carly Gregg trial
SUMMARY: During the ongoing trial of Carly Gregg, a Rankin County teen charged with her mother’s murder and shooting her stepfather, multiple mental health experts testified about her mental state. They collectively determined that Gregg was competent to stand trial but not definitively mentally insane under Mississippi law. Dr. Amanda Gugiliano, a forensic evaluator, found her competent but couldn’t assess her sanity, while psychiatrist Dr. Jason Pickett suggested her mental state did not meet legal standards. He noted concerns about her attorney potentially guiding her responses for gain and described her journal entries as “theatrical.” The defense’s motion to drop charges was denied.
