Death of singer comes almost a year after last performance in Artesia
SUMMARY: R&B and Southern soul singer Window B, known as the boss, has passed away. He was a well-known performer in the Golden Triangle area and his death comes a year after his last performance at the Artesia Festival. Some of his popular songs include “Can We Talk,” “Still Learning About Love,” and “Staying in Love Ain’t Easy.” People in Artesia are saddened by his loss, as he hinted that it could be his last performance there. The singer had been ill before his passing, but the exact cause of death is unknown. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.

Mississippi bill would end DEI ideology in state’s higher education | Mississippi
SUMMARY: Mississippi state Sen. Angela Burks Hill has proposed Senate Bill 2223, aimed at eliminating diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in the state’s higher education system. The bill would prohibit public institutions from using funds to support DEI offices or personnel and ban diversity training and preferential treatment based on race, sex, or ethnicity. Additionally, schools must report compliance and reallocate funds previously designated for DEI towards merit scholarships and tuition. The bill is under consideration by the Mississippi Senate Universities and Colleges Committee. Another bill, 2515, is also being reviewed, focusing on the efficiency of the public university system.

SUMMARY: Saint Andrew’s Episcopal School is quiet as an influenza outbreak leads to the closure of all grades on Friday. The decision was made to help students recover and minimize community spread. Following advice from school nurses, high schoolers were sent home Thursday, with elementary students following Friday, halting classes until Monday. The Mississippi Department of Health reports that flu cases in the metro area have doubled recently, likely due to post-holiday school attendance. Health officials advise getting flu shots and keeping sick children at home to protect health as case numbers are expected to decrease with warmer weather in March.

Republican bill would block illegal immigrants from receiving tax breaks | National
