Dear Mississippi: Reflecting on 2023
SUMMARY: Dear Mississippians, I hope your holidays were wonderful. This season is joyous, and as 2023 ends, I am struck by how quickly it passed. For Mississippi, I'd summarize this year as “forward,” acknowledging our collective resilience amid challenges. I've seen both triumphs like reaching goals and welcoming new life, and adversities like losses and unmet objectives. But regardless of the highs and lows, each of us has pushed through. As we approach the new year, I urge everyone to reflect and be grateful. Shared experiences, regardless of nature, deserve recognition. Happy New Year to all!

Recipes to Get You Ready for July 4th
SUMMARY: As summer reaches its midpoint, the Fourth of July is a time to celebrate with flags, remember our heritage, and enjoy food with loved ones. Initially, I considered writing about flag displays or the historic July 2, 1776, independence declaration. Instead, I focused on sharing food tips, including a burger tip with chopped onions and peppers from Bess Robbins. For your Independence Day meal, I recommend a Sour Cream Flag Cake and a Watermelon Feta Flag Salad, both featuring patriotic colors. The cake includes layers of strawberries and blueberries, while the salad combines arugula, watermelon, and feta, dressed with a lemony vinaigrette. Bon Appetit!
