'What are we getting?': We pulled the data from 264 HOME initiative applications
SUMMARY: The city of Austin’s HOME initiative (Home Options for Middle-income Empowerment) aims to increase affordable housing by modifying land development codes. Applications include converting garages into residences, building two-story townhomes, and adding accessory units. As of now, 264 applications have been submitted, primarily under phase one, which permits up to three units on single-family lots and tiny homes. Phase two, which reduces minimum lot size requirements, has seen only four submissions. Community groups express concerns about data accessibility regarding the initiative’s impact, with calls for better geographic analysis of applications.
