Daylight saving time ends soon: What if we didn't 'fall back' this year?
SUMMARY: Daylight saving time will end on November 3, allowing Americans to gain an extra hour of sleep, but it will also mean earlier sunsets. While states have shown interest in adopting permanent daylight saving time, efforts have stalled. If clocks were not changed, morning commutes would be darker, as sunrise in Chicago, for example, would shift to 8:18 a.m. Proponents argue that permanent daylight saving time could reduce crime and traffic accidents, but a past attempt in the 1970s faced backlash, leading to a return to biannual clock changes. Most Americans will reset their clocks unless Congress intervenes.

New tropical disturbance pops up in the Atlantic: National Hurricane Center
SUMMARY: The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is tracking a disturbance developing in the eastern Atlantic Ocean, with a 30% chance of further development as it moves westward or southwestward. Currently located a few hundred miles from the Cabo Verde Islands, the system may encounter conditions more favorable for growth by mid-week, despite initially moving into less conducive environments. Over the next ten days, the NHC will continue monitoring the situation, especially as potential impacts on Florida remain uncertain after recent hurricane events, including Helene and Milton.
