Dallas County launches its own dedicated opioid overdose prevention hotline

www.youtube.com – FOX 4 Dallas-Fort Worth – 2024-10-14 17:44:37

SUMMARY: The opioid crisis remains a significant issue in North Texas and nationwide, despite a decrease in opioid-related deaths compared to last year. Dallas County has launched an opioid hotline to aid in overdose prevention, addressing the growing challenge of fentanyl, now responsible for 90-95% of opioid use. Experts from Parkland Hospital and the North Texas Poison Center emphasize the urgency of addressing this evolving issue, as fentanyl-related deaths have dramatically risen from 11% to 70% between 2018 and 2022. The hotline, staffed by trained specialists, operates daily from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. at 214-590-4000, aiming to connect individuals with vital resources.
