SUMMARY: Dallas city officials apologized to Family Gateway’s CEO, Ellen Magnus, for delays in roof repairs that led to significant mold damage after a storm on May 28. The damage has closed the nonprofit’s childcare programs for nearly four months, affecting 50 families experiencing homelessness. City officials admitted to mistakes, citing a lack of budget for repairs. Although the roof was recently fixed, significant remediation is still needed. Magnus is awaiting reimbursement for expenses incurred due to the delay.
