Folks in the Pine Belt, such as Vernon and Ellie Dahmer, stressed the importance of black people having the right to vote. Their son, Dennis, remembers the struggles his parents and others faced, and how Mississippi can continue to change now. Vernon Dahmer died in 1966 after suffering injuries from a Ku Klux Klan attack. The younger generation is also credited with taking a stand, and in 2024, Dennis says their legacy can be found in historical markers of important locations during Freedom Summer in Hattiesburg.

Now a rookie, she is focused on learning from her more experienced teammates, Katie Lond and Jordan Bloomer, while remaining motivated by her faith.
