SUMMARY: Brandon Martelles, an unmarried father from Hillsboro County, lost custody rights to his daughter, Amaya, after the mother consented to her adoption without his knowledge. Following the birth, he was misled into believing she had died from SIDS, prompting a desperate search that led to confrontation at hospitals. After a court ruling determined his consent was unnecessary for the adoption, Martelles expressed frustration and sorrow over being unable to support or raise his daughter. He believes the adoption laws need reform to protect fathers’ rights. Martelles remains determined to share his story and hopes to meet Amaya in the future.

Brandon Marteliz has been fighting to see his 2-year-old daughter since she was born. Standing in an empty bedroom meant for his baby girl, next to a crib she’s now outgrown, he told the ABC Action News I-Team he goes into the room less and less. “It’s just, it’s not easy. Sometimes I sit in here too long. Just wondering what she’s doing or, you know, what she looks like even,” he said.

Despite skepticism about feasibility, the plan emphasizes energy security through both nuclear and renewables, highlighting Japan’s goal of net zero carbon emissions by 2050. The final plan is expected to be approved by March, replacing the current 2021 policy.
