Herring has been appointed as the new District Attorney for Mississippi’s First Circuit Court District by Governor Tate Reeves, following the vacancy left by John Weddle’s appointment to the Mississippi Court of Appeals. Herring, an attorney from Saltillo, has extensive experience serving as city attorney for Saltillo and Guntown, and has represented law enforcement in officer-involved shooting cases. His term will commence on October 14 and will continue until filled by a special election. The district encompasses Alcorn, Itawamba, Lee, Monroe, Pontotoc, Prentiss, and Tishomingo Counties.
