Countdown to Kickoff 2023: Harrison Central Red Rebels
SUMMARY: Harrison Central football is looking to bounce back after their worst season since 2017. Despite moving up to a higher division, the Red Rebels are optimistic as they bring in an inexperienced team for the 2023 season. With 18 of their 22 starters from the previous season returning, the coach is excited about the potential. The team has made changes, including a new quarterback and coaching staff, and has bought into the idea of working together as a team. They have a challenging schedule ahead, but believe they have the ability to compete and make it to the playoffs.

Davis Bayou dredging almost finished after years of complaints
SUMMARY: After almost 20 years of complaints from residents, the dredging project for Davis Bayou in Jackson County is nearing completion. The initiative, driven by homeowners since Hurricane Katrina, faced significant delays, with residents even funding permits since 2008. Despite frustrations, progress has finally been made, as a $690,000 contract was awarded to Breakwater Marine Construction in 2023, though it took over a year to start. Recent efforts have accelerated work, and as of now, the contractor is close to finishing the dredging, marking a long-awaited relief for local homeowners seeking better access to the water.
