Councilman holds meeting to discuss Jackson's parking meters
SUMMARY: Jackson City Councilman Kenneth Stokes hosted a meeting to address concerns about new downtown parking meters in Jackson, Mississippi. Stokes highlighted difficulties faced by elderly residents, who struggle to operate the new kiosks from SP Plus, leading to confusion and fines from third-party ticket issuers. Former Hinds County Supervisor David Archie criticized the aggressive ticketing practices, while SP Plus senior manager Alice Wallace provided guidance on using the kiosks, which accept coins and credit cards. SUMMARY: Scammers are increasingly using deceptive tactics to trick individuals, with phone calls and mail scams becoming common. He outlines four red flags to identify scams: claims from familiar organizations, assertions of winning something or being in trouble, demands for immediate action, and requests for specific actions or payment methods. If targeted, individuals should contact their financial institutions and authorities. During the holidays, scams rise, making vigilance and skepticism essential in avoiding victimization.
