Could Tennessee or Kentucky see a white Christmas? Map shows which areas have best chance of snow
SUMMARY: AccuWeather analyzed historical data from 1991 to 2020 to determine the likelihood of a snowy Christmas in the U.S. The chances are slim in major cities, with Denver and Chicago having the best odds at about one in three. Indianapolis and Boston have a one in four chance. The northern U.S. and mountainous areas have the highest probabilities. A La Niña climate pattern could affect snowfall, with the Pacific Northwest and northern Rockies seeing more snow. However, weak La Niña winters typically bring less snow to the Pacific Northwest and above-average snow to the north-central U.S.

Metro Arts finally has a grants plan for 2025. It has similar rules and less money for artists.
SUMMARY: In July 2024, the Metro Arts Lending Library added 53 new works to its Main Library’s Mezzanine Gallery. After recovering from a chaotic funding cycle in 2023, Metro Arts has a new plan for distributing $3.2 million in grants, down from over $7 million last year, amidst a record-high applicant pool exceeding 300. The two grant programs—general operating grants for nonprofits and Thrive for individual artists—will utilize a modified funding formula prioritizing smaller nonprofits. Changes to Thrive include capping amounts at $10,000 and requiring partnerships with nonprofit fiscal agents. Final approval from the Metro Council is awaited in January.

Audit recommends changes to private probation board | Tennessee
SUMMARY: An audit released by Comptroller Jason Mumpower found that Tennessee’s Private Probation Services Council needs more transparency in reporting verified information. The audit revealed that expenses exceeded revenues by $97,910 in three of five audited years, with a significant deficit in 2021. The council, which oversees 26 private probation companies, collects fees but does not verify the self-reported data on probationers. Auditors recommended that companies report probationer information to the courts and the council. They also suggested publishing annual data, including probationer numbers, and clarifying the council’s responsibilities through legislative action.
