SUMMARY: The iconic Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables is facing allegations of illegal renovations after the city issued a notice for violating its lease by making changes without proper permits. City officials, including the mayor, conducted a walk-through to assess the modifications, which included updates to the lower lobby lights and other areas. While the hotel could potentially obtain permits retroactively, this is not how the lease operates. Concerns were raised about ongoing work without necessary permits, prompting calls for further city commission discussions. The hotel has 44 days to rectify the situation, while management maintains ongoing communication with city officials.

City officials claim the lower lobby lights, the interior plant and the wine room at Biltmore Hotel are just several things were upgraded or installed without a permit.

SUMMARY: Winter Haven city leaders voted 3-2 to end the addition of fluoride to the water supply, a practice that began in 1986. Commissioner Brad Danler cited a recent federal court ruling that mandated the EPA to strengthen fluoride regulations, highlighting potential health risks, particularly for children. Concerns expressed by residents included possible impacts on IQ, immune systems, and bone health. Some medical professionals warned that ending fluoridation could disproportionately affect low-income families lacking access to alternative fluoride sources. Danler proposed reallocating the $48,000 currently spent on fluoridation to support charities providing fluoride products for disadvantaged children. Fluoride removal is expected by January 1st.

Fluoridation of the City of Winter Haven’s water supply started in 1986 but that is about to change. City commissioners voted 3-2 to stop adding fluoride to the water.
