Coolidge Ball, first Black student-athlete at Ole Miss, dies

SUMMARY: Coolidge Ball, the first Black student-athlete at the of Mississippi, has died at the age of 71. Ball signed a scholarship with in 1970 to play for the 's basketball team, breaking barriers for future generations. He scored over 1,072 points for the team and guided the Rebels to three consecutive winning seasons. Ball was inducted into the Ole Miss Athletics Hall of Fame and the Mississippi Hall of Fame. He later coached basketball at Northwest Mississippi Community College and owned a sign company in Oxford. Ball is remembered as a trailblazer and a source of inspiration.

NMMC in Tupelo cares for patients virtually

SUMMARY: North Mississippi Medical Center in is addressing the nationwide shortage of Registered Nurses (RNs) through a virtual nursing program. Managed by Heather Wilf, the program supplements current nursing staff by using technology similar to iPhones or iPads to handle admissions and discharges. This virtual system allows nurses to concentrate more on without distractions. While virtual nurses can't perform tasks like flushing IVs or taking blood pressure, the initiative has executed over 6,000 discharges and 1,000 admissions since last April. The medical center aims to expand this program to its community hospitals.

Calhoun City Alderman charged with aggravated assault, robbery

SUMMARY: Calhoun Ward 2 Alderman Tony Herrod and Markus Hankins were charged with aggravated assault and strong-armed robbery. The incident took place on Sunday night at Calhoun City Elementary School, where the victim was chased, beaten, and had items stolen. Surveillance footage identified the suspects.
