SUMMARY: The Conservancy is building a 35-acre oyster reef in Bay St. Louis funded by BP oil spill restoration money. The reef consists of 11,000 limestone rock mounds creating a 3D habitat to support oyster reefs and attract recreational fishing opportunities. Located near five boat ramps, the reef will provide easy access for anglers, supporting the local economy through purchases of bait and fuel. Named after local chef Tony Troan, construction is expected to be completed by the end of May, with the Conservancy planning to monitor the project for the next three years. The reef aims to boost the blue economy in the area.

The Nature Conservancy in Mississippi is building thousands of limestone “pods” to create a new oyster bed in Bay St. Louis.

SUMMARY: Despite clear skies and a beautiful sunrise in Gulfport, Mississippi, the cold temperatures remain dangerously low, with some areas experiencing single-digit temperatures. Parker Boyd reports from Jones Park, where the snow-covered landscape gives off a holiday vibe reminiscent of Christmas. While the snow is picturesque, it poses a serious risk due to icy conditions on the roads. Locals, unaccustomed to such weather, are urged to take extra caution when venturing out. The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) is working to clear the roads, but travel may still be challenging across the region.

Snow-packed roads across South Mississippi will be icy and dangerous Wednesday.

Meteorologist Aaron Colby reports that many bridges are closed, and roads are covered with up to half an inch of ice, making travel extremely dangerous. While some vehicles are attempting to navigate the area, they are moving very slowly, often under 20 mph. Visibility of ice on roads and the need for extreme caution at intersections are emphasized. Residents are urged to avoid travel if possible and, if necessary, to proceed with extreme caution to prevent accidents. The icy conditions are expected to persist throughout the morning.

Snow-packed roads across South Mississippi will be icy and dangerous through Wednesday morning.
