Concerns over traffic stops in Metro Nashville
SUMMARY: Metro councilman Jeff Eslick is urging residents to voice their concerns about speeding, claiming that police are not conducting enough traffic stops. He highlighted a 45% decline in traffic stops over the past five years alongside rising traffic fatalities, equating the roads to the “Wild Wild West.” While traffic deaths have decreased countywide since 2022, Eslick believes police enforcement is inadequate, stating that only traffic division officers make stops. Metro Police contested this, asserting that any officer can enforce traffic laws. Eslick continues to advocate for more rigorous enforcement, asking the public for examples of speeding issues.

SUMMARY: A former Crime Stoppers officer, Erica Hutcherson, is facing charges for misappropriating $118,000 through fraudulent tips. Employed with the Memphis Police since 2016, Hutcherson manipulated a database to collect rewards meant for tips, allowing a co-conspirator, identified as KB, to pose as a tipster and receive payments. Federal documents reveal two cases where tips led to arrests, but Hutcherson falsely updated records to facilitate payouts for herself and KB. The scheme unraveled when FBI agents intervened during a cash pickup. Hutcherson pled guilty to conspiracy to commit theft and is now being held accountable for her actions.
