Community wants justice for Gulfport teen Jaheim McMillian’s death

Following the tragic death of 15-year-old Gulfport High School freshmen Jaheim McMillan, tears, posters, condolences and prayers have surrounded his family.

Last Thursday the teen was shot in the head during an officer-involved shooting at a Family Dollar in Gulfport.

Jaheim was transferred to a hospital in Mobile for treatment where he later died from his injuries.

Sunday, a balloon release in his memory united the community, sharing one message: ‘Justice for Jaheim.’

MGCCC students earn top honors at 2025 Mississippi Community College Art Instructors Association competition

King highlights the significance of perseverance in art, encouraging others to push through challenges. Both students’ achievements reflect the quality of talent nurtured at MGCCC, as they prepare to further their education—King at the University of South Alabama and Ano at Mississippi State University.

HII Hosts US Marine Corps Officers at Ingalls Shipbuilding

SUMMARY: On April 2, 2025, HII hosted U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Eric Austin and other officials at its Ingalls Shipbuilding division in Pascagoula, Miss. The group toured the shipyard, including two amphibious warships under construction, Bougainville (LHA 8) and Harrisburg (LPD 30). Ingalls Shipbuilding President Brian Blanchette highlighted the shipbuilders’ pride in supporting the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. Austin praised their contributions to national defense. Ingalls builds amphibious warships critical for global operations, including the LPD 17 San Antonio and LHA America classes, with several ships currently under construction or contracted.

Southern Miss freshman earns Congressional Silver Medal

SUMMARY: Molly Collins, a freshman at the University of Southern Mississippi, received the Congressional Award Program’s Silver Medal for her extensive volunteer efforts. To achieve this recognition, she completed over 200 hours of public service, 100 hours of personal development, and 100 hours of physical fitness. Collins, a computer science major from Madison, participated in community activities, including volunteering at local farmers markets and the Mississippi Children’s Museum, along with spearheading projects with the Metro Leo Club. Her accomplishments were acknowledged by U.S. Rep. Michael Guest, and her English instructor praised her dedication and impact as a student and citizen.
