Community leaders team up for turkey drive

SUMMARY: enforcement and community in Lowndes County, Mississippi, are teaming up to give away 1,000 turkeys for Thanksgiving. The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office and the Community Benefit Committee are accepting turkey donations until November 17th. The turkeys will be given out on November 18th at the new Lowndes County Sportsplex. This initiative allows both to give back to the people of Columbus and Lowndes County. Lieutenant Rhonda Sanders and Sheriff Eddie Hawkins believe it is important to families in need and give them a “hand up” rather than a handout.

Human remains found in Marion County believed to be those of missing man

SUMMARY: Marion County deputies are investigating the discovery of human remains in a wooded area. On November 1, authorities received reports of a vehicle matching the description of one belonging to Delmar Lee Blake, Jr., who went missing in August 2023. Upon locating the vehicle in the Lampton community, investigators searched the area and found the remains, believed to be Blake’s. The remains have been sent to the Mississippi Lab for identification. Deputies do not foul play, and the investigation is ongoing.
