Committee on AI unanimously approves recommendations, encourages use | Georgia
SUMMARY: Georgia’s Senate Study Committee on Artificial Intelligence has unanimously approved a 185-page report recommending legislative action to regulate AI. The report calls for state legislation that enhances data privacy and updates deep fake laws without stifling innovation. Chairman Sen. John Albers emphasized the need for transparency and a state board for AI oversight. The bipartisan committee, formed in March, gathered insights from experts across various sectors, aiming to balance AI’s benefits with ethical concerns. Members expressed the importance of protecting Georgians while promoting effective AI use, with hopes for further legislative action beyond their disbandment on Dec. 15.

Col. Co. leaders look at resolution to provide property tax relief to homeowners
SUMMARY: Columbia County leaders in Martinez, GA, are proposing a resolution to increase the local homestead exemption from $2,000 to $10,000, aiming to provide property tax relief after opting out of Georgia’s statewide exemption. County Manager Scott Johnson stated that the exemption adjustment aims to benefit taxpayers, especially given the low millage rate. A draft of resolution 25-10 was presented, which could reduce taxable home values for homeowners. If approved by the county commissioners and the state legislature, it would be on the ballot for voters in November 2024, with the potential to take effect on January 1, 2026.
