SUMMARY: Columbia Maran County Animal Shelter is facing overcrowding, housing over 30 animals, primarily stray dogs. The influx of unadopted pets is straining resources, making it difficult for staff like Christina McMillan to provide adequate care. Many animals have remained in the shelter for nearly a year, and city ordinances require accepting all unclaimed animals. To combat this crisis, the shelter has waived adoption fees and is urging the community to adopt pets and spay/neuter their animals. The staff is striving to avoid euthanasia, emphasizing the need for more adoptions to facilitate intake of new animals and ensure proper care.
