Democrats’ Georgia losses has link to Black voters staying home | Georgia
SUMMARY: In Georgia, Black voter turnout decreased in 2024, contributing to Vice President Kamala Harris’ loss to Donald Trump. While most demographics saw an increase, Black turnout dropped from 60.2% in 2020 to 58.3%. Experts point to messaging issues from the Democratic Party and a generational shift, with younger Black voters less committed to the Democrats. Dr. Alvin Tillery attributes the loss to a failure to mobilize Black voters and calls for the party to focus on key demographics rather than centrist policies. Others argue that Democrats’ disconnect with working-class issues and lack of “self-awareness” contributed to the loss.

Justice Department: Fulton County Jail conditions violate the constitution | Georgia
SUMMARY: The U.S. Department of Justice reported that dangerous and dehumanizing conditions at Fulton County Jail in Georgia have led to the deaths of at least four men with mental disabilities. A 97-page investigation revealed inmates faced violence, unsanitary living conditions, and insufficient protection, violating constitutional and federal laws. Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke highlighted the abuse, citing the death of Lashawn Thompson, who died in squalid conditions. Since 2022, the jail has seen six violent deaths and 300 stabbings. The Justice Department warned local officials of a potential lawsuit if changes are not made within 49 days.

Henry County leaders meeting to talk about proposal for brand new data center | Residents concerned
SUMMARY: Henry County leaders are meeting to discuss a proposal for two new data centers, as construction is booming across Georgia. One proposed center, measuring 1.2 million square feet, is planned for Strickland Road, aiming for completion by 2028, while another identical site is proposed off Rocky Creek Road. Concerns have been raised by residents about the impact on the county’s limited water resources, especially since data centers typically require significant water for cooling. Henry County Water authorities previously indicated that large projects could strain resources. Commissioners declined to comment on the proposal until after the meeting.
During last month’s board meeting, the county talked about its limited water resources, something residents are also concerned about.
