Coj Public Works Director Resigns
SUMMARY: The new Public Works Director, Khalid Woods, has resigned after only 10 days in the position. Despite being introduced to the City Council on July 18 by Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba, Woods resigned before he could be officially approved for the role. Woods is a native of Birmingham, Alabama, and has spent the last 17 to 18 years in the US Navy serving in various capacities related to public works. Councilman Ashby Foote expressed disappointment in Woods’ resignation and hopes to find someone who will stay for a longer period of time. Woods would have replaced Robert Lee, the city’s traffic engineer, who has been serving as the interim Public Works Director. The mayor’s office did not comment on the reason for Woods’ resignation.
