Empower Mississippi pushing to expand education opportunities for K-12 students
SUMMARY: Empower Mississippi founder Grant Ken discusses the push for expanded K-12 education options through a campaign called Mississippi Ready. He explains school choice as an umbrella term encompassing public school choice, charter schools, and private choice options like vouchers or education scholarship accounts. While change is gradual in Mississippi, there is growing recognition that school choice is not anti-public school. The state portion of education funding could follow students if they switch schools, similar to moving districts. Ken emphasizes that this approach aligns with trends in other states and is legally sound regarding the separation of church and state.
